Car and Carriage Caravan Museum at Luray Caverns, Luray, VA

The Car and Carriage Caravan Museum in Luray is an interesting place to visit. If cars and old time transportation are an interest or hobby of yours, you'll love this museum.

It's a little off the beaten path for the Washington D.C area, but a fun day trip if you're looking for things to do. The caverns are a great tour and the Car and Carriage Caravan Museum is a bonus when you go to visit Luray Caverns.

In the museum there is a large collection of different modes of transportation which each showcase the milestones and progress made in transportation from 1725 to 1941. In the collection are carriages, a baby buggy, bicycles, delivery vehicles and of course cars. These modes of transportation have been restored beautifully.

This museum has a lot of interesting history contained within it's walls and it's a great side excursion when visiting the caverns. Here are a few pictures of some of the historic vehicles (if you click on any of the photos you can see much more detail).

Whether you're interests lie with cars, history and the development of transportation, this is a neat museum. As you tour the exhibits you get a distinct realization of the progress society has made over the centuries.

The museum is free with a paid admission to the Luray Caverns. The museum opens at 9:00 a.m. and you can read more about it on the museum's section of the Luray Caverns website. For more tips and pictures on visiting the caverns please visit this entry which offers a review, travel tips and photos.

OK, there's another one for the "to do" list. It looks like there are some pretty interesting caverns at the same site.
